Using Trendy Colors In Your Home Decor
Just like any other trend, today’s hot decor colors could be passé by tomorrow. Well, maybe not that quickly, but because trends do come and go it’s important to put serious thought towards how and where you introduce them in your home interior design.
Here are some tips and suggestions on how and where to use trendy color in your home:
Smaller Doses / Bigger Impact
- Stick to neutral colors for larger, more expensive items that you plan to keep for a long period of time. (Your sofa would fall into this category.)
- Add trendy colors through the use of paint, fabric, area rugs
, decorative accessories, and wall art
.
- Apply a bright paint color to one wall. Paint will make the biggest impact for the least amount of money. (This is something you will hear over and over again.) If the current trendy color is turquoise, rather than painting all of your walls and over-saturating your space with too much color, consider applying that trendy paint color to one wall surface to serve as an accent wall.
- Repeat the color from your accent wall in toss pillows
, curtain panels, vases, a throw
or other accessories.
If you love a bright, punchy color, but aren’t sure how far you’d like to carry it, these color tips offer safe ways of introducing it with less chance of feeling overwhelmed.
