Where do you find interior design color inspiration? Finding color inspiration is really as simple as opening your eyes and taking a look around! Color is everywhere, all the time. We eat it, drink it, watch it and wear it. You don’t need to go anywhere to find color inspiration, just open your closet door, look under your feet, or glance out the kitchen window. We are completely surrounded by a multitude of inspiring color palettes.
If you feel comfortable wearing a particular color, chances are that including that color in your interior decorating color scheme will also work. What about those new shoes – are they the exact shade of red you have in mind for an accent wall?
Under Your Feet
Do you have an area rug that you are planning to use? Select colors that have been used to create the pattern of that rug for use in other areas of your interior decor – a paint color for your walls, a color for accent or throw pillows.
Outside Your Window
Colors from nature are beautifully coordinated – the brilliant blue of the winter sky, the green of the moss that spreads over the stones in your landscape. Then there are the stones themselves in shades of grey and brown. Bring the outside in by using these same colors in your kitchen or sunroom.
Because these items are so familiar and we are exposed to them everyday, sometimes we don’t actually see them. I encourage you to stop and take some time to really take in your surroundings – appreciate what is right in front of you. Don’t overlook the obvious as a source for your color inspiration.
And of course if nothing jumps out at you, there is always the paint department at your local home improvement store!
